Hello! I'm Sara Dunning.
Mom | Artist | Student | Art Teacher | Believer
Being able to communicate through art is something that I am passionate about. Ceramics, painting, photography and graphic design are mediums that I thrive in. There is so much more that I want to explore, and I enjoy being able to teach others what I have learned so far. Visual Arts opened the doors for me...
My (brief) Story
When I was a toddler, my family discovered that I was hard-of-hearing, and doctors informed my parents that I would never be able to talk. A tutor came to our house once a week to help me learn sign language, and to help me improve my speech capabilities. We drew pictures that related to the words I learned, and that's when visual art began its prominent role in my life. I was barely 2 years old when drawing quickly became another way for me to communicate. Contrary to the doctors' predictions I learned how to speak, how to recognize useful context clues, and I even read lips, or as it is called now, I have the ability to speech read.

As I learned to speak verbally my love for art continued to grow as well. High School Art opened my eyes to the career paths that were available and I began community college pursuing Fine Arts, Graphic Design & Photography. I earned an Associates degree in Graphic Design, or Visual Communication and worked in this field for a while. Eventually my love for learning won and I set my eyes on a new goal and pursued my dream of teaching fine arts & design. In 2019 I earned my bachelors and now I am working on my Masters in Art Education at Texas Tech University. In 2019 I also began my teaching career as an elementary art teacher for Tyler Independent School District, and now I am at home in Wildcat Country teaching Secondary Art and Graphic Design for Big Sandy Independent School District!
